Another epic sturgeon battle just shy of 10′

Taking a break from sturgeon to fish some of the other local rivers around Lillooet

Another group from 100 Mile House came down and experienced a fantastic day of sturgeon fishing. Daryl and his twin boys Brad and Curtis each managed to land some good fish. The day started out with a bang as we hooked into a massive fish early on that we battled for three hours before the hook straightened and we lost him – 20ft from the beach! After an exhausting morning we still managed to pull in some big sturgeon in the afternoon, as well as a couple small ones.

Jake and his dad Max showed up for their second day of sturgeon fishing this year and had another great day. Jake received a brand new sturgeon rod set-up for his birthday and was able to break it in on a number of good sized fish. The bite was on all over the river and we managed to catch fish everywhere we tried. The day finished off with a double-header of two 6 footers, one of which is pictured below. Joel and Jeff drove out from Kelowna for the day and landed a couple of large sturgeon. As the Sockeye salmon run picks up the sturgeon start feeding very aggressively and the fish become noticeably fatter. This 8’1″ fish had a girth of 46 inches – almost half its length!

Another amazing day on the river! 8 fish landed again this time with four of them over 6 feet. Two of them were so powerful that we had to pull anchor and chase them downriver in the boat, landing them 1km downstream from where they were hooked. This 6′ 11″ was the first fish and a great way to start the day. Thanks to Adam and Liz for coming out for a fun two days of fishing.

Adam and Liz drove out from Saskatchewan for two days of Sturgeon fishing and we had a great first day. 8 fish were landed in the 3 to 5 foot range. Lots of action but we’re looking for the big monsters tomorrow!

Chris from Pemberton came out for his 36th birthday and had a great day of fishing, topped off with this 6’8″ beauty. He’ll be hitting the gym before the next trip though, because reeling this guy in was exhausting.

Eric had a fishing adventure of a lifetime on his private Sturgeon Trip with Dave.  His smile says it all in the photo. They landed 8 nice ones and lost a few as well. He is already planning a trip next year with a group of friends to stay with us at the Fraser Canyon River Ranch. The Sturgeon were biting at all our favorite holes and there was not another boat on the river all day.  The middle Fraser River is the best place to fish with lots of remote canyon sections and beaches to anchor at.

Another epic Sturgeon fishing day yesterday under sunny skies on the middle Fraser River. Young Jake 12 years old and 80 lbs. soaking wet reeled in 4 nice size fish with a little help from his dad Max.  Another 6 were hooked but either broke us off or spit the hook.  The Sturgeon are on a feeding frenzy right now with the salmon coming up the river. We barely even got the first rod in the water before we had a 6 footer on the line that leaped 4 times for us. With only 1 other boat on the river all day with us it was paridise up our way between Lillooet and Lytton.

Hugh and his wife Lauren drove in from Saskatchewan and landed a handful of nice fish including this 6′ 6″.
