Within reach is some of the best freshwater fishing in North America. British Columbia has over 20,000 lakes and 750,000 kilometers of streams for anglers to fish. Fraser River Sturgeon Fishing is known to be the best in the world and no other river can compare. Sturgeon fishing season on the Fraser River is open year round, but certain times of the year are certainly better than others.
Luckily, with sturgeon, the optimal fishing season is long, and runs between March and November. Many anglers are drawn to these magnificent fish, which can easily reach over three metres (10 feet) in length – the largest freshwater fish in North America. Sturgeon Fishing Fraser River Guidelines
With the large number of anglers partaking in this BC fishery, it is imperative that the fish are handled correctly to minimize impact, and ensure that the fishery is sustainable. The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations ,(with support from the Fraser River Sturgeon Conservation Society, Fraser Valley Angling Guides Association, Recreational Sturgeon Anglers of BC, and Fisheries and Oceans Canada), has developed guidelines for catching and properly releasing sturgeon. Please remember to adhere to these guidelines when setting up your tackle, fishing for, and handling White Sturgeon on the Middle Fraser River.
A BC Freshwater Fishing Licence is required, and is available in a range of
options from single day to annual licences that last all year, from
April 1 through March 31st.
Sturgeon Conservation Challenge
We would like to invite you and your Team of 4 to participate in this year’s exciting “NEW FORMAT “ Sturgeon Conservation Challenge. This year we want to provide flexibility to the participants to fish on several days in different areas of the Fraser from February 1st to October 16th. We have hand-selected FRSCS Accredited guides who will provide you with a quality experience. Once your Team has paid the entry cost and registered, please contact us and we will work with you to find a day and location on the Fraser that best fits your schedule. The Gala Awards evening will be separate from the angling experience.
